Clara Smith – The Essential Clara Smith: 1924-1929
I was honored to join the Women’s March today with my missus and my daughter. Honored, proud, and moved.
One of the better signs I saw today: “I can’t believe I still have to protest this shit.”
Which is pretty much what Clara Smith was singin’ bout:
“Every morning, early every morning, I have to rise with the morning sun
a poor strugglin’ woman, her work ain’t never done”
I could tell you so much more about the wonderful music of Clara Smith, and I will at some point further down the road, but for now, I’m just gon’ stop right here, as today is the day it is, and this is the song it is.
With thanks to my friend Coyote Slim, who reminded me of this song today, your recommended track to start with, is “Strugglin’ Woman’s Blues.”
