The James Cotton Blues Band

The world lost another one of the great ones yesterday. Fare thee well James Cotton. If here is where it ends, then here is where it begins.

This was the beginning of James Cotton recording on his own as a full-length leader, and the sounds are as deep and as raw and as cool and as badass as you’d expect.

I’ve Been Dealing With The Devil is canonical Cotton, and I really groove on him takin’ on Knock On Wood. But if you really want to hear Cotton the young man doin’ what he did best throughout his career—shuffle the shit out of a harp—then check out The Creeper.

And then commend him to the gods.
