The Rolling Stones – Through The Past, Darkly (Big Hits Vol 2)
The Rolling Stones are the greatest band to have never actually recorded a genuinely great album.
They never have. Get over it. They haven’t. Every single one of them is flawed beyond repair.
That said, add up all their great songs, and you could make more Greatest Hits albums than any other band, ever.
So I have no problem recommending a Greatest Hits compilation.
I picked this one, even tho it’s Part 2, because a) it’s awesome, and b) it happens to be the Stones album that I primarily grew up with (we had High Tides & Green Grass as well, but I listened to this one more). My parents have the original octagon vinyl.
Check out the track list (US release, for those paying close attention):
1. Paint It Black
2. Ruby Tuesday
3. She s A Rainbow
4. Jumpin Jack Flash
5. Mother s Little Helper
6. Let s Spend the Night Together
1. Honky Tonk Women
3. 2000 Light Years from Home
4. Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadow?
5. Street Fighting Man
These had all been recorded and released by 1969. That’s fucking unbelievable. They formed as a band in 19 bloody 62. 7 years. All this, in 7 years. And that’s only a partial list! This was Volume 2, for God’s sake!
