The Bodeans – Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams

Man, the mid-80s were a great time for roots rock. I had this album on a cassette, with Boston, Mass. by The Del Fuegos on the other side of the Maxell, and I swear I just about wore that tape out. Cruzados, Lone Justice, Beat Farmers … just great stuff.

I heard “Fadeaway” and that was all it took. I was hooked. What a fuckin’ great song. I still love that song. I still warm up on the guitar playin’ that riff.

Don’t get me wrong. There’s many, many great tracks on this album. “Rickshaw Riding” is stunning. When Sam Llanas comes in on that vocal, I get chills. What a wild and beautiful voice …
