Peter Tosh – Equal Rights

“Stepping Razor” was the first Peter Tosh recording I heard where I consciously realized I was listening to Peter Tosh.

That was also the moment I realized Peter Tosh was incredible. When that chorus hit, man, my blood just froze.

Is it lunatic to say that this is my favorite version of “Get Up, Stand Up?”

It’s not my favorite version of “Sinnerman” (here titled “Downpressor Man”), as that distinction goes to Nina Simone. But it’s quite possibly my second favorite version.

Has revolution ever sounded so melodic or elegiac?

“I don’t want no peace
I need equal rights and justice”

As attested to in the lyrics of  “Stepping Razor,” Peter Tosh was indeed dangerous.
